With the influx of social media platforms comes a barrage of information which more often than not can be overstimulating when its intake isn’t measured.
Between the last time I wrote and now, I have spent more hours on my phone than I have with other human beings.
For an introvert, that shouldn’t matter especially because with the hours spent on the phone, you’d think given the ease of access, I’d be in touch with others.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case.
Everyone is so focused on making it that despite social media’s ability to grant access beyond physical borders, actual human connections are waning by the day (at least that’s been my experience). When you’re not actively posting, months can go by without hearing from or interacting with people.
Everything has become so superfluous and deep human connections have become a rarity.
Maybe I especially feel it because I’m a single 30+ year old living away from my family.
And yes, I bet you’re thinking me whiny by now. “Why can’t you initiate those conversations or connections you clearly desire?”
I haven’t been one to know how to do that but I desperately I’m willing to learn how.
I am bone-searingly tired of scrolling for hours on end just to keep myself entertained.
I want deep friendships. I want to interact with human beings. I want to be able to pick up the phone and call a friend and have them talk to me with expectant joy.
I love my time with myself but I want others to share in the joy of me too.
THIS IS A CALL FOR FRIENDSHIPS BEYOND SCREENS!
