Which One Triggers The Other?  – #myStory

Writing was never really my thing…at least not until recently. I didn’t like that whenever I set out to write one thing I’d  end up with so many openings and directions to follow that oftentimes, I get stuck usually after the first two paragraphs. And so, that kept me away from penning anything for a really long while. I mean, who’ll enjoy being beaten by one’s own mind at something that’s supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing.

I’d get so apprehensive about writing anything that I poured myself into listening to more songs and reading a lot more books.  I’ll be frank with you, I may be a big reader but I’m not one to readily delve into the “how-to” books. Probably if I had, I would have found a way of getting around my apparent “schizophrenia” midway through writing a piece every time earlier.

Editing on the other hand, has been something I enjoyed doing. Having my nose in a book for a greater part of my life may have earned me something after all. For I don’t know where I picked the habit or how I came by that skill but I’m glad it’s my go-to activity. I find solace in pointing out any number of errors in any piece of English writing and help in setting straight any such errors as best as I can. I used to think editing was rather easy but since I’ve had to edit people’s pieces to put up on my blog, I’ve come to see editing for the great feat that it is.  I come to this morbid yet stark truth by the experience I’ve had over these past months. If you’ve ever had to prepare a beef sauce with just bones, then editing should be relatable. I’ve had to work around people’s central ideas for their pieces the best way I can without making it mine entirely and that I have come to see, is like performing reconstructive surgery on a person; the person must to some extent be the same for those considered family and friends to easily relate to without feeling they may have lost the person through the reconstruction. It however, doesn’t dent my elation in doing so every chance that I get… to perform reconstructive surgery on a piece of writing.
I can never really choose if I’m asked to do so. In a way, the editing has helped me curb if not overcome my mid-piece writing crisis by showing me it’s okay to err… because I can go back to reconstruct.

Therefore, it’s neither here nor there. Each one, writing and editing,  has its own lessons to give me and since I never heard it was going to be easy, my guess is, we’re just going to have to keep living, writing, erring and giving ourselves the chance to reconstruct because I heard inspiration never really breeds activity but activity almost always breeds inspiration.

Do not wait too long to start that thing you’ve been thinking of sweetheart; the inspiration may never come. Start it, now!

The struggle is real.

I’m still learning .

And I love what I do.
I’m not going to stop now.
